GEORGE, UTAH (JUNE 1, 2018) – The authorities reported that a driver of a Ford Explorer crashed into a Toyota Highlander when she failed to yield while turning left Friday.
According to St. George Police officer Dave Mcdaniel, the driver of the Ford Explorer stopped at a stop sign to make a left hand turn at the intersection of Meadow View Lane and Valley View Drive. As she turned the Ford Explorer she slammed into the side of a Southbound Toyota Highlander. Witnesses to the crash stated the Ford Explorer, “Just accelerated out straight into the Toyota.” The driver of the Ford Explorer received a citation for failure to yield.
No one was seriously injured, though the 4 occupants of the Toyota Highlander received light injuries. Both vehicles were towed from the scene of the crash.
The driver of the Ford Explorer is at-fault for the injuries sustained by the occupants of the Toyota Highlander. According to Utah law the injured occupants have a right to make a claim against the driver of the Ford Explorer or her insurance for their injuries, vehicle damage and loss of enjoyment of life.
According to the 2016 Utah Crash Summary posted on highwaysafety.utah.gov a motor vehicle crash occurs once every 8 minutes in Utah and 19.2% of these are caused by failing to yield. These senseless crashes have no place on our roads. When anyone is operating a motor vehicle they must pay attention and follow the basic safety rules that keep us all safe from harm, including maintaining all diligence and avoiding any distractions while driving.
